please help...

does anybody know of a really simple step by step guide to using adobe elements 7? i am having particular trouble trying to do my first black, white and one colour. i know this may be simple, but the one colour is a ball of wool so where as i am trying to use lasso tools etc i am having real trouble fathoming it.
i have magazines with step guides in other abobe and other applications, but they don't quite help.
....could you?

cheers

Try using the magnetic lasso tool, increase the drops to 100 percent and go around slowly. If it goes offline just click the back arrow back to the off point and start again from there.
Once you click and select it,invert the selection and then convert to blk & whi.
Hope this helps...Tino

Alternatively do the current colours in the picture allow you to use the magic wand tool to select the wool? Take a look at help.adobe.com/en_US/PhotoshopElements/7.0_Win/WSae2ea3b149d0c3591ae939f103860b3d59-7ec1.html

I use the Gimp and elements 3
If you photo the ball against an evenly lit single colour background, then use "colour to alpha" option to make the background dissappear
Or use "Magic eraser tool" to remove the background
or use dark background with light coloured wool and recolour background to a uniform medium colour using the paint tool set to "lighten only" or recolour wool using paint tool set to "darken only"
in all cases use an image size as large as possible and scale down (if required) afterwards

thanks all so far. i have had to leave this for a short while, but i will be trying all of the above soon.
the biggest rouble i have is that it is not just a ball of wool, but a ball, a patch on a needle and a trail. you can imagine my difficulty as a beginner.
thanks again for the suggestions. i will let you know how i get on in a short while.

cheers
