Overview

Challenges are a fun part of the site where members set a certain theme, and other members take and submit photos to fit the theme. Challenges are open to entrants for a certain fixed time, after which the member that set the challenge has the option of picking a winner and runner-up. Entries that get selected earn the entrant some points.

Browsing and searching the challenges

Challenges are listed in two sections: open challenges and judged challenges.
Open challenges are those that are still accepting entries. Judged challenges are challenges where the creator has reviewed the entries and optionally selected a winner and runner-up.

Use the navigation controls to specify how the challenges are listed. Click the search link in the menu to search the challenges' titles and descriptions for specific words. You can specify which sections to search, and choose to ignore challenges that have no entries.

Click on a challenge's title to view the challenge. On the challenge page you'll see the full description of the challenges, along with whatever options you have (vote for the challenge, enter the challenge etc.).

Voting for a challenge

If you encounter a challenge that you particularily like the sound of, you have the option to vote for it (if you're a member). Click the 'vote for this challenge' link to do so. The number of votes for a challenge is displayed on the 'open challenges' page, and there will be a list of those members that voted on the challenge page.

Entering a challenge

Members may enter their own photos into a challenge. You have two options: to upload a new photo or select a photo that you've already uploaded (but hasn't yet been entered into another challenge).
Entries are photos from the gallery that get tagged as an entry into the challenge, so if you're uploading a photo for a challenge then it will also be placed in the gallery as normal.

To enter a challenge, click the appropriate link on the challenge page: either 'upload a photo for this challenge' or 'enter an existing photo'.
The upload option will take you to the normal upload form, and the 'enter an existing photo' option will take you to a page where you can select from the photos you are able to enter into a challenge.

You can't enter your own challenge, but you can add photos to use as an example of the sort of photo you're hoping to see entered.

Creating your own challenge

To create your own challenge, click the 'create your own challenge' link on the challenge lists, or 'post a challenge' on your account page.

There are some limitations put in place to prevent there being too many challenges open at the same time, and to encourage members to post interesting challenges.
Normal members may only have one challenge open at a time. Another challenge can't be posted until the currently open one has been judged. Members with a gold account can post up to 7 at the same time.
There is also a limit to how many challenges a member may post per year. Normal members may post up to 10 per year. Members with an enhanced account can post up to 30. Gold accounts have no limit.
The year is on a rolling basis, which means that if you reach your limit you can't post a new challenge until the oldest of those 10 challenges (or 30 challenges) is over a year old.

When creating a challenge you need to give the challenge a title. This is brief description of the challenge and will appear in any links to the challenge. A short, descriptive title is best.
You also specify the duration of the challenge. This defines how long the challenge will be open for people to enter it. The drop-down list will give you a choice of durations available.
The preferred entrants option indicates who you would prefer to see in the photos entered into you challenge: men, women or both. This is just an indication and doesn't force people to enter with your preference.
The full description allows you to fully explain the theme of your challenge. Use this field to describe the sort of entries you will favour, and why you feel this is a good challenge.
Challenges suggest illegal acts, are offensive or are simply spam will be removed by site moderators.

Judging a challenge

When an open challenge finishes, it's removed from the list of challenges and is ready for you to judge.
You'll receive a notification telling you that it's ready to judge, and you can access the challenge from a link under the 'Your challenges' section of your account page.

When you view the challenge you'll be given the option of selecting a winner and runner-up from the entries.
You have one week in which to judge your challenge before the system closes it automatically and without any winners, so please be sure you'll be around to judge any challenges you create.
