Fairweather photography

I spent a mixed day today - on the good side it was a full day at a bird (feathered!) photography workshop, on the bad side it rained all day and not only were the birds looking forlorn but so was I.
I did get some good small tips from the guy running the course (who's a cracking nature photographer, see www.naturesvisions.com):
* Plan, plan, plan - if you've got a good idea what you're aiming to achieve then chances are you'll manage it
* Use RAW - why let Mr Canon or Mr Nikon decide on the colours of your picture?
* Use Portrait style for nature shots some times - landscape isn't the only style
* Adobe Lightroom is great (ok, so I disagreed here as I prefer Photoshop)
* Always take a bin bag with you - use it to keep dry when you're laying on the floor
* Lay on the floor to get real eye level pictures - they look a lot better than shots from 5-6ft up

He did say lots of other stuff, but did keep coming back to things like letting the camera do the work and don't believe everything you read in photography magazines!
