The beginning of my photography journey...!

So lately I've been really getting into photography; spending much more time composing my shots, learning how to actually use the settings on my camera and taking a few more decent pictures every time I go out. But I'm still very much a noob to this whole thing and am still using a compact.

I like my camera, as it does have a fully manual mode so I can set exposure time, apeture etc, which means I can fiddle about and learn what settings give what effects and all that. It's 10mpixel which is good but from what I've read, anything above 6mp doesn't really give any better pictures due to the sensor size. Plus, you just don't get the same result from a compact. I think not having appropriate lenses is probably the difference.

So without wanting to waffle on too much, I thought I'd document my progress with a blog, in the hope that I'll be able to see how far I've come, and that other noobs will be able to take something from this. I've been on a few photography sites and although they say they cater for new people too, I haven't found them very welcoming and some of the very experienced people just don't give you any feedback whatsoever on pictures/questions etc. However, here, I've found everyone welcoming and encouraging so I'm not worried about revealing just how little I know about photography!

Anyway, step 0.5 for me, I have aquired Photoshop with a tutorial book so hopefully my editing skills will get better if nothing else!

Sorry for the long waffle, it won't be so bad next time!

Looking forward to reading more - the fact that you know what to do with the manual mode on your camera means you're a long way from a noob (that's my mother, who needs the instruction manual just to turn her camera on!).

Yea I guess so, I never thought of it like that. My mum's the same! My only problem now is getting used to said settings. My attempts don't always work so well!

Hurrah for manual settings. You just need to fix the weather now so that there's some sunlight to take photos with.
Cameras with manual settings get depressed and lethargic in such gloom. unhappy

I know what you mean, it was pretty hard at the weekend to get any shots that didn't look dull. Stupid weather. Rejoice in the British summertime!
