Recently I was contacted by someone from a "bank" in the Cayman Islands who wanted to use a couple of the photo's I'd posted to another photo based website.

The person was amazed at having asked me if they could use the ...  (read more)

Airshow

25th Jul 2008, 10:11 PM
I went to the Lowestoft Airshow yesterday (terrific day out, and free!) and for the first time found the true benefit of digital - the ability to take hundreds of pictures.

Lots of instinctive "point and shoot" pictures, hoping to...  (read more)

Through someone elses eyepiece

17th Jul 2008, 10:56 PM
I recently met up with a photographer from another site I frequent. He had been staying in Norfolk for a short time and had taken some shots of my home city.

It was interesting to see exactly what sites he thought were worth taking pictures...  (read more)

Unscrupulous B*st*rds!

7th Jul 2008, 10:58 PM
Not a post today about photographers, but about buying a camera. Having got increasingly annoyed about going out and swapping lenses over on my old 300D I thought it about time to get a new camera, so off to Ebay I went. Found a good priced 450D, fro...  (read more)

Bad Timing Again!

4th Jun 2008, 12:33 PM
Close to whee I work is a small lake (ok, it's a pond but the people who run the business park like to think in romatic terms!) and a pair of Egyptian Geese have set up home. Wandering past during lunchtimes I've seen them build a nest and ...  (read more)

Non-Critical

28th May 2008, 7:50 PM
Having just recently bought one puppy (see http://www.chortleberry.com/l/photo_97000/Time_For_A_Rest) I'm a glutton for punishment and have my name down with a dog breeder to buy another in a few weeks time. She's a very enthusiastic person...  (read more)

When not to take that shot

23rd May 2008, 4:12 PM
Being a little photographically uninspired I decided to head off to my favourite nature reserve to see what was enjoying the sunshine. This place is Pensthorpe in Norfolk, and for those of you in the UK this will be one of the venues for th BBC'...  (read more)

Photogenic

26th Apr 2008, 7:01 PM
Today I went to see a litter of puppies from a local breeder, and took my young children with me hoping they'd help me pick one out. We ended up with a choice of two, and neither child would budge, so the choice fell to me.

How could I...  (read more)

Mixing work and pleasure

22nd Apr 2008, 6:04 PM
I learnt an important lesson today - not to mix work with my leisure pursuits! Having been asked to be the "official photographer" at a works conference.

Now I love photography, but conferences are deathly boring, and the boredom ...  (read more)

There's photography and there's photography

20th Apr 2008, 7:49 PM
Friends at work know I like photography so have asked me to photograph a conference next week. Pity they didn't take into account that I prefer wildlife to people!
So tonight I'm writing up a list of target shots, much in the same way ...  (read more)

The Power of Photos

9th Apr 2008, 9:03 AM
Yesterday was a particular crap day as I had to have my labrador put to sleep (he was 13, so had had a good innings). In order to take my mind off this sad event I started to organise my photo's, with the aim of putting them all onto one hard-dr...  (read more)

A very frustrating photography weekend : Saturday was poor weather so I experimented with more liquid drop shots, none of which I was that happy with (in particular I found that photos of Radox bath gel look rubbish).

Sunday I took my camer...  (read more)

Group Photo Tip

5th Apr 2008, 11:40 PM
I was reading some university research or some such thing a month ago which gave the odds of someone in a group photo having their eyes shut. The upshot of the research was that if you have more than 5 people in the shot the odds are that you will al...  (read more)

Water Drops

27th Mar 2008, 12:15 AM
Such a simple idea - put a camera on a tripod, point it at some drips hitting some water and capture the resulting water drops. So simple and yet so frustrating and so addictive.....

But now I can't just think about water drops - what a...  (read more)

Timing part 2

25th Mar 2008, 8:15 PM
Following on from my last post today saw some great conditions for some scenic pictures - sunshine and a light dusting of snow. Having spent 4 days in bed with flu (the real sort, not just man-flu) I wasn't that eager to get outside, but my othe...  (read more)

Timing is everything

14th Mar 2008, 7:02 PM
It was a sunny day, I had the day off work, so I loaded up my camera equipment and headed off to my favourite haunts to try to get some more shots of birds.

Only problem is no one told the birds that I was coming, and everywhere I went eithe...  (read more)

Ratio's

4th Mar 2008, 3:56 PM
Following on from my question about what makes a good photographer I started to think about numbers and metrics (a curse of my job!) and wondered what the ratio of my photo's are in various states of quality

Out of every 500 shots (and...  (read more)

What makes a photographer?

3rd Mar 2008, 9:40 PM
For the last 3 years I've owned a digital SLR, not because I'm an accomplished photographer but because I like gadgets and I like taking photographs. When I talk to people about photography I generally start off feeling inadequate in some w...  (read more)
